We recently got in touch with Simon Roos from Aldinga Home Improvements, to learn more about the family business and local success story.
We want to know, where did your story begin?
My parents founded the business in 1985. Back then kit sheds and verandas were not as readily available as they are now. So they decided to design and manufacture their own verandas and sheds. I began in the workshop manufacturing these sheds and carports from about the age of 14 while I was at school. Once I finished my schooling I found myself working in all areas of the business and undertaking management training. Having managed the business successfully for many years my parents decided it was time to move on and my wife and I took over ownership of the company.
Over the last few years we have experienced rapid growth and our team is expanding all the time. Due to popular demand we also found ourselves expanding our product ranges to include Carports, Verandas, Sheds, Fencing, Retaining, Decking, earthworks and concrete, Roller-shutters and outdoor blinds, roofing and commercial shade sails. We have dedicated specialists in each of these fields and still to this day manufacture our own range of sheds and fencing in both aluminium and steel, ensuring we are able to design and construct our own products exactly, to fit for each individual client.
How do you get to know a new client and a new project?
Our relationship generally starts with an initial appointment or inspection to discern a client's requirements. We have product specialists in each field and depending upon the client requirements, we will arrange for them to meet with a specialist that is experienced with the product they require. Sometime this involves several team members especially when a client is wishing to have a full outdoor area transformation. Upon this inspection our team listen to our clients requests and then combine this with their knowledge, experience and products available to come up with the best possible solution.
Being local to the area, quite often out team members and clients already know each other and the relationship and trust is already there, therefore the experience is as comfortable and enjoyable as it could possibly get. Our team are all full time staff members and not commission based either. This means our clients are able to maintain the relationship with their initial representative through out the entire duration of the project and they will be there to help through anything our clients require.
What’s in an average day for you?
My day generally starts with a coffee! Following this I generally have meetings with individual members of our team on most days of the week regarding various topics. My aim for this is to ensure high levels of communication between our trades and team members. Following this, I could find myself in any area of the business , one minute I could be in the manufacturing workshops, on an initial consult with a client, on a building site constructing, in a truck delivering, meetings with suppliers and service providers or even in the reception manning the phones. I prefer to do this to ensure I stay in touch and experienced with each area of the business.
What do you find interesting about the Aldinga landscape?
I love the fact that we have hills on one side and the ocean on the other, I guess like many the main attraction is the long beautiful beach we are lucky enough to live by.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part is definitely seeing the transformation that takes place from the beginning to the end of a clients project and also seeing how happy the are with the change once it is complete.
